The area around Espère
Espère is 7 km from Cahors, the capital of the Lot department in southwestern France. The same distance from the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean and the Pyrenees and the Massif Central.
Because of the altitude of this region you could say there is a micro-climate.
For 2000 years wine growing in this area has been due to the large amount of sunshine. In our 300 year old,
former, vineyard with thick stone walls, the temperature is always pleasant.

The Lot river beside Cahors |
Southwest France is one of the oldest inhabited areas of Europe: in the various caves with murals (including Pech Merle)
you can find the remains of Cromagnon-man.
The Romans used this wooded area as a hunting ground and started the wine-growing. In 2007, in Cahors an amphitheater from the 1st century AD
discovered. In the Middle Ages the Cahors area flourished due to its wines.
A famous landmark is the Pont Valentré, a fortification from the 14th century. Dining options
are numerous and there is much to enjoy, besides the famous Cahors wine, this region is also known for its truffles and numerous
duck recipes.
